“Resourcefulness allows you to think outside the box and find creative solutions to problems.”
Editor’s note: A First Generation Professional (FGP) is the “first” in their immediate family to earn a 4-year college degree and/or obtain a higher level professional position than what was held by either parent.
As a first-generation professional, I understand that the journey to success can sometimes feel like an uphill battle. Limited access to resources and support can make it challenging to navigate the professional world and achieve your goals. However, one important key to success for many first-generation professionals is resourcefulness, which is one of the core elements taught in the MorenoMethod.
Resourcefulness refers to the ability to find solutions to problems using the resources available to you. One example would be using social media platforms, like LinkedIn, to network and connect with professionals who work in industries you would like to explore. Another example of resourcefulness is understanding how to follow the chain of command in the workplace. This would be particularly useful in cases where there is a conflict or disagreement and a resolution is required.
Resourcefulness is a crucial skill for anyone trying to achieve their career goals. But for first-generation professionals, who may have limited experience in accessing the types of resources required in the workplace, it can make the difference between success and failure.
The MorenoMethod teaches clients how to effectively research and identify resources—the people, places, and things—that are needed to help them to accomplish their goals.
Resourcefulness allows you to think outside the box and find creative solutions to problems. It also helps you make the most of the resources you do have. By demonstrating your resourcefulness, you can show potential employers that you have the skills they are looking for.
Look for ways to solve problems using the resources available to you. Challenge yourself to think outside the box and try new things. With resourcefulness, you can achieve your goals and succeed as a first-generation professional.
