CONSULTING
At LASC, 75% of my students are first-generation college students. My experience as a researcher and an educator to first-gens have given me a unique perspective on how to overcome the challenges they face.
I work with organizations and higher education institutions by creating pathways that support the success of their greatest assets, their employees and students. I prioritize the importance of developing inclusive and adaptive curriculum, training that supports employee and student needs, and motivational speaking to nurture and broaden the minds of our current and future leaders.
understanding the problem
The current structure of higher education falls short on providing truly inclusive and equitable access to education. Institutions are finally becoming aware of the importance of addressing student’s basic human needs but colleges are not integrating solutions into their curriculum to make it EASY for students to access.
Issues first-generation students are facing:
Food and housing insecurity
Inequitable access in navigating institutional resources/systems (childcare, technology, transportation)
Lack of sense of belonging
Issues first-gens professionals (employees) are facing:
Job security and sustainability
Social and Professional capital
Motivation and purpose
Issues organizations and higher education institutions are facing:
Lack of documented evidence of demonstrated results
Ineffective diversity and wellness programs
