WORKSHOPS

Our workshops are designed for first gen professionals to build community and connection, and to thrive in all aspects of their lives.

Participants are encouraged to create a network of support to weather challenges that may come their way.

Let’s come together and break down the barriers holding us back.

Research reveals that traversing different socioeconomic and cultural contexts may be more challenging for FGPs who lacked the benefit of professional parents and/or immediate family members, “prep” programs, or other exposure.

FIRST GENERATION PROFESSIONALS (FGP) INITIATIVE
Office of Civil Rights, Department of Commerce

Having been where you are now, Dr. Moreno is all too familiar with the barriers, challenges, and obstacles of being a first generation professional. These can include:

  • Lack of Role Models: First-generation professionals may not have access to family members or mentors who have gone through a similar career path, which can leave them feeling isolated and without guidance.

  • Financial Constraints: The cost of education and training required for a professional career can be significant, and first-generation professionals may not have the financial resources or support from their families to pursue their goals.

  • Cultural Barriers: The workplace culture can be difficult to navigate, particularly for those who come from different cultural backgrounds. First-generation professionals may feel out of place or uncomfortable in a new environment.

  • Imposter Syndrome: First-generation professionals may feel like they don't belong or that they aren't good enough to succeed. This can be particularly challenging in competitive fields where self-doubt can hold them back from reaching their full potential.

  • Network Challenges: Professional networks can play a crucial role in career advancement, but first-generation professionals may not have the same social connections or access to professional organizations as their peers. This can make it harder for them to find job opportunities, mentors, or advocates in the industry.

What you will learn

*Note: Space can be limited to eight (8) participants for certain workshops and will be filled on a first-come first-served basis.

 the process

step 1 | assess

I begin by creating a safe space for participants to build rapport, fostering an environment of collaboration. Within this space, I work with each participant to identify areas for improvement.

step 2 | build

After assessment, I guide participants in finding resolutions to their self-identified needs. Collectively, we hold each other accountable, offer encouragement and support on a weekly basis.

step 3 | realize

Newly empowered participants take their learnings each week and apply them directly into their day-to-day lives.

A limited number of reduced fee scholarships are available based on financial need. Schedule a free consultation to find out more.
